SELTranslator founder David Driscoll was born with normal hearing and diagnosed with spinal meningitis at the age of three. His early education began several months later under the guidance of the world renowned John Tracy Clinic in Los Angeles, CA. JTC is an educational program that emphasizes an oral/auditory philosophy using spoken English with Deaf children. This set a strong foundation in mastering the vital life skills which became ingrained into his core as his primary mode of communication.

David’s unique background brings a wealth of 40 plus years of lip reading experience, facilitates with ease using a cochlear implant, excellent speech and is also fluent in American Sign Language (ASL). Currently, he serves as a Special Education teacher of the Deaf and adjunct ASL Professor. Past accomplishments include valedictorian of his high school graduating class, a Bachelors of Arts degree from California State University, Northridge, a California Special Education teaching credential and is a certified black belt in karate.

He is a driven spirit who thrives under pressure while adapting and embracing new challenges. During his free time he enjoys martial arts, big game fishing, organized sports, traveling, reading, friends and family.
